The Salton Sea

One interesting place in CA that not a lot of people know about is the Salton Sea. The Salton Sea is an inland Saline lake, occupying the some of the lowest elevations in our country. Throughout the 50s and 60s, the Salton Sea was THE vacation destination for Southern Californians, drawing the likes of 4 million boaters per year. In the 70s, a giant flood wiped many of the small resort towns off the map, and since then, everything out there has since deteriorated. The Salton Sea is now filled with deserted towns, grids of paved streets with no houses, boarded up hotels and abandoned Yacht clubs. A really creepy place, but definitely a photographers dream.
